Gasskájvo
A hike to Gasskájvo is beautiful but strenuous and is rich in flora and fauna. The hike takes you from the lush area around the Tarra River up to the high mountains and summits of 1322 meters above sea-level, a climb of 1000 meters. The tour provides tremendous scenery.
Hiking to Gasskájvo starts at the Padjelanta trail and separates from it at the Valle stream onto a narrow path. The path follows the creek upstream to the canyon and continues steeply upwards towards the mountains. It is virgin forest and some fallen trees lie there. Up in the birch forest the path branches off in many animal paths and on the barren mountain top it has totally disappeared. When hiking from Kaskaivo downwards, the trail is often found first when arriving in the coniferous forest.
The hike to Gasskájvo and back to the beginning of the Padjelantaleden is 22 km in length and takes about 12 hours. It is a strenuous hike and demands some experience.
