Kvikkjokk Nammásj

Nammásj

Nammásj is 657 meters above sea level and is found at the embouchure of the Tarra Valley and is surrounded below the mountain by the delta area of Kvikkjokk. In the mountain areas of Jokkmokk there are four mountains named Nammásj and all of them are situated as solitary hills at the entrance to a valley.

Nammásj is the mountain top which is easiest to climb for a scenic view in Kvikkjokk. The path goes on the northern side of the mountain. The east and southern sides of the mountainside are steep down towards the delta. Old mossy coniferous forest grows on the mountainside and in the steep cliffs is the protected Saxifraga Cotyledon (Southside Seedling).

From the summit the hiker has the best scenic view over Kvikkjokk and the delta. The isolated position of Nammásj also gives a fantastic view in the opposite direction as well as into Tarra Valley and towards the Tarrekaise Massif.

The hike to the top of the mountain and back to the boat pier is 5 km and takes about two hours.
